Merenneitoletti ja muuta ihanaa

Lettihaaste on jatkunut samoin, kuin kiire Letille kakkosen kuvauksissa, joten tämän päivän postaus tulee jälleen kerran viimetipassa.

Lettihaasteen 22. päivän letti on merenneitoletti. Letille-kirjasta löytyy ohje yhdenlaiseen merenneitolettiin. Itse tein tänään tällaisen:

Eilinen letti oli kukkaletti. Laitoin Facebook-sivulleni muutaman ohjeen erilaisiin kukkaletteihin.

Ja huomenna vuorossa on lettiyhdistelmä, eli melkein mitä vaan! Nyt mielikuvitus valloilleen. Tässä pari ideaa: Twisti-kalanruoto-nuttura, kolmoisranskalainenletti.

Been busy with photoshoots for my book, so today’s post is quite last minute again.

Day 22 of Hair by Lori’s braiding challenge is a mermaid braid. I did a waterfall twist into mermaid braid today. You can find a tutorial for a similar style on Cute Girls Hairstyles.

Yesterday’s theme was flower braids and I put a few tutorials on my facebook. This is my 4-strand flowerbraid updo:

Tomorrow’s braid is a braid combo, so time to let your imagination loose. Here are a few ideas: twist fishtail bun, french braid combo.

30 lettiä

Toukokuun lopussa, kun insta-kaverni – Lori – haastoi minut 30 päivän lettihaasteeseen, ajattelin: ”taas joku haaste, enpä taida jaksaa… no jos nyt kuitenkin joinakin päivinä yrittäisin…” Mutta enhän minä koskaan osaa sanoa ”ei” haasteelle… Eli tuli sitten väännettyä uutta lettiä joka päivä kesäkuun ajan.

Viime vuonna, kun tein samankaltaisen haasteen, huomasin, että se oli tosi hyvä tapa motivoida itsensä kokeilemaan uusia lettejä, sellaisia, mitä ei ole ennen kokeillut… Tänä vuonna haasteessa oli vain pari uutta lettiä, mutta se motivoi minua kokeilemaan uusia versioita tutuista leteistä.

Postasin jo viime viikolla alkukuun letit, mutta tässä nyt yhdeksän viimeisintä.

22. Merenneitoletti, 23. Kaksi neliosaista lettiä ja kalanruoto, 24. Kaksi twistiputousta ja kalanruotonuttura, 25. Korsettiletti, 26. Yhdeksän kelttiläistä solmua, 27. Vesiputous + Liu’utislettejä ja ponnari, 28. Tupla tikapuuletti ja ponnari, 29. Kruunuletti hollantilaisesta kalanruodosta ja 30. Kahdeksan pientä sydäntä ja nuttura.

In the end of May, my Insta-friend – Lori – asked me to participate in the braiding challenge. ”Another challenge, not sure if I have the time and energy… maybe I’ll do a few of them…”, I thought. But I can never say no to a good challenge, so I ended up doing 30 braids!

It was a great challenge to get me to try new versions of braids and to inspire and motivate me. I already posted the first part of the challenge last week, so here are the 9 last ones.

22. Mermaid braid, 23. Two fourstrand braids and a fishtail, 24. Two waterfall twists and a fishtail bun, 25. A Corset braid, 26. Nine celtic knots, 27. Waterfall into slide-up braids into a ponytail, 28. Double ladder braid, 29. Dutch fishtail crown and 30. Eight little hearts and a bun.

Matkaletit

Nyt loskan keskellä on kiva muistella, mitä tehtiin tasan vuosi sitten: olimme juuri aloittaneet suuren seikkailun.

Uusille lukijoille voin kertoa lyhyen version tarinasta: olimme muuttamassa Suomeen ja päätimme ennen uuden elämän aloittamista viettää kaksi kuukautta matkustellen perheen kanssa.

Lähdimme matkaan Sveitsistä, joten aluksi kiertelimme Etelä-Euroopassa. Seuraavaksi matkustimme 5 viikkoa Karibialla ja Meksikossa. Paluumatkalla ajoimme Euroopan halki Suomeen.

Valokuvia tuli otettua vaikka kuinka paljon, ja osa niistä tietenkin leteistä (yllä puoliranskalaisviritelmä, jolla vältimme päänahan palamisen Barbadoksen auringossa). Otin matkan ajaksi pienen letti-projektin: joka maasta ainakin yksi letti Instagram-tililleni. Jaan niistä nyt osan piristämään tätä tuulista ja kylmää huhtikuun alkua.

Ensin kalteva letti Pisan kaltevalla tornilla. Toisessa kuvassa olemme St. Maartenin saarella, josta puolet kuuluu Hollannille, puolet Ranskalle, joten siellä tytöt saivat hollantilaisen ja ranskalaisen letin.

Mexicossa näimme niin paljon liskoja, että käärmeletti tuntui sopivalta. Ja Sveitsissä tehtiin tietysti Heidi-letti:

Sorry, my English followers, I’ve done couple of posts about very Finland-specific events, so the English versions have been short…. but today, something to cheer you up in April weather.

Exactly a year ago we were starting a great adventure. We were taking couple of months off to travel with the family. We spent couple of weeks in Southern Europe, then 5 weeks in the Carribbean and Mexico, after which we returned to Europe and drove from Provence to Finland….

While travelling, we took a lot of photos, and I did a braiding photo challenge: I posted at least one braid from each country. Here are a few, you can go on my Instagram and find all of the travel braids if you scroll down to last year.

First, a leaning braid at the leaning tower of Pisa. At the island of St Maarten, we did a dutch braid and a french braid because the island is half dutch half french.

A snake braid in Mexico… and a Heidi braid in Switzerland.

Finally a mermaid braid in Copenhagen, at the statue of Little Mermaid:

Challenge 2: multiple strands

I always thought you’d need more than 2 hands for more than 4-strand braiding. But I’ve seen so many pictures of 5, 6, 7 and more strands in a that I started to think it must be possible.

So I started to practise. Now I can do up to 6 strands french braid, dutch braid and lace braid.

Here are some examples:

These are two 4-strand braids finishing in a ”cheat’s 9-strand braid”. That means I left a thin strand of hair out in the nape of her neck, then looped that through the two 4 strand braids, combining them into a 4+1+4= 9-strand braid.

(By the way, this is my youngest daughter, who just turned 3, and who’s hair is getting very long and increasingly braidable)

The next one is a 5-strand ”mermaid” braid.

I’ve promised to make a tutorial for this one, but at the moment we are so busy with an upcoming house move, that I barely have time for photos, never mind videos (but I’ll always have time for braiding).

Finally, my first (and so far only) attempt at a 7-strand french braid. Very messy and uneven, and still my fingers were nearly on a knot after this, so I just have to carry on practising!
