I’m back

Nyt on jäänyt blogaamiset, facebook ja YouTube videot aika vähälle huomiolle, mutta ajattelin aloittaa taas uudella innolla.

YouTubeen palaan heti torstaina uudella, kauan odotetulla videolla.

Blogini ajattelin potkaista vauhtiin kesäkuun lettihaasteella! Insta-ystäväni, Lori, on jälleen haastanut instagramin lettitilit tekemään joka päivä uuden letin:

Olen osallistunut samankaltaiseen haasteeseen jo kahtena edellisenä vuotena. On yllättävää, kuinka paljon haasteesta oppii: tulee kokeiltua niitäkin lettejä, joista ei tykkää, tai joita ei osaa, tai yhdistettyä lettejä eri tavoin ja keksittyä uusia tapoja käyttää tuttujakin tekniikoita. Eli suotsittelen tätä ihan kaikille, mutta etenkin aloittaville lettitaiteilijoille!

Jos en ihan kaikista 30 letistä saa itse kuvaa instagramiin, niin vaikka sitten yhdistelen pari päivää samaan lettiin, jos siltä tuntuu.

Avuksi kaikille, jotka eivät ihan joka tekniikkaa osaa tai ole koskaan moisista leteistä kuulleet, sekä niille, jotka kaipaavat uusia ideoita, ajattelin linkata tänne blogiin ohjevideoita kesäkuun ajan. Myös Lorin blogista löytyy ohjeita ja uusia ideoita: hän tekee ison postauksen monen ohjeen kera joka päivä. Minä ajattelin tehdä niin monta postausta, kuin kerkeän, nyt ensimmäiseen postaukseen laitan ohjeita komeen ensimmäiseen lettiin:

1.6. Ranskalainen letti

Ihan perus ranskikseen löytyy ohje Letille-kirjasta. YouTube-kanavallani löytyy ohje sivulle tehtyyn pieneen ranskalaiseen lettiin, sekä siihen, kuinka ranskalainen tehdään omiin hiuksiin.

2.6. Hollantilainen letti

Jälleen Letille-kirjasta löytyy sekä perusohje, että muita ideoita. Jenni’s Hairdays -youtube kanavalta löytyy sekä lätytetty hollantilainen että kampaus omaan päähän.

3.6. Köysiletti/ Twistiletti

Köysiletti on lettikurssieni suosikki – todella helppo. Köysiletin ohjevideossa teen aluksi pätkän puoliranskalaista köyttä, mutta sen voi jättää pois, jos haluaa ihan simppelin version.

Nyt kaikki mukaan 30 päivän lettihaasteeseen!

I’ve been super lazy with my blog, Facebook and YouTube lately, but am determined to return with some new energy, starting with a new YouTube video this Thursday.

To kickstart my blog, I am taking part in Hair by Lori’s 30 days Braiding Challenge. Lori has once again challenged the IG braiding community to do a new braid each day throughout June:

I’ve done a similar challenge last two years already. It really surprised me, how much I learned throughout the challenge: I tried braids that I didn’t like or couldn’t do, or I made new combinations and came up with new ways to use old techniques. I recommend the challenge to everyone, but especially if you are just starting creative braiding!

If I can’t do a braid every day, I will combine a couple of days or something, but will get through this one way or another.

If you’re not familiar with each technique, or if you need some new ideas, I will be linking some tutorials in my blog throughout June. Lori is doing an extensive coverage of each technique in her daily blog posts, so go and check them out. I will do as many posts as I can, starting with the first two braids of the challenge:

1st June – French Braid

This, as many of the other braids, can be found in my braiding book – Letille. On my YouTube I have a tutorial for a small french braid on the side as well as a DIY french braid.

2nd June – Dutch Braid

I have a video for a pancaked dutch braid and a DIY updo with dutch braids.

3rd June – Rope/ Twist

This is a favourite in my braiding courses: an easy break after french and dutch braids. In my rope braid tutorial, I start with a lace rope braid, but if you want it even simpler, just leave that out and do a ponytail version!

Kiharoita ilman lämpöä

En käytä mielelläni lasten hentoihin hiuksiin kiharrinta tai hiustenkuivaajaa. Tottakai joskus pitää kuivata hiuksia saunan jälkeen sen verran, ettei tyyny kastu, mutta yleensä hiustenkuivaaja pysyy kaapissa. Kiharrin on vielä syvemmällä kaapin perällä, koska kihartamiseen löytyy paljon keinoja, joihin ei tarvita lämpöä.

Olemme testailleet erilaisia keinoja kiharoitten tekoon, tässä esittelyssä pari lettikiharakikkaa.

Lauantaina saunan jälkeen tein tyttöni märkiin hiuksiin kaksi köysilettiä. Sunnuntaina ne toimivat kivana kampauksena ja pitivät hiukset pois tieltä kaikissa touhuissa. Maanantaiaamuna avasimme köysiletit. Koska letit eivät lähteneet ihan pään päältä, jäivät ylimmät hiukset suoriksi, joten tein niihin 5-osaisen merenneitoletin, joka piilotti suoremmat osat (yksinkertaisempikin half-up kampaus toimii samoin):

Kun kiharoita tehdään leteillä, jäävät ylähiukset usein suoriksi. Siksi kannattaa kokeilla käärmelettiä, jolla saa tasaisemmat kiharat. Viime kesänä veimme käärmelettikiharat seuraavalle tasolle, kun tein kaksi risteilevää hollantilaista lettiä, joista tuli yhden uimakoulupäivän ja kahden yön jälkeen aikamoinen kiharapilvi:

Jos kokeilet näitä kotona, niin muista katsoa sääennuste: sateellahan nämä kiharat suoristuvat äkkiä!

I don’t like to use heat in my girls’ hair, but luckily there are so many ways of doing heatless curls. We’ve tried quite a few, here I show you couple of no-heat braided styles to achieve curls.

Saturday night, we I did two french rope twists with wet hair, left them until Monday morning, and you can see the result below. Obviously, when the braid doesn’t start from the top of the head, the top part of the hair is quite straight, so I did a 5-strand mermaid braid to hide the straight bits… but any half-up-do would work here.

If you want to avoid the straight parts at the top, I’d use a snake braid. Last summer, we took the snake braid curls to the next level by making these curls with two zigzag dutch snake braids:

Finally, when doing home made curls, always remember to check the weather forecast: the curls will be ruined by rain!

Köysiletti – Rope braid

Kun pienenä kieputin Barbien päähän köysilettiä, ihmettelin aina, kun se löystyi samantien. Nyt vanhempana olen löytänyt keinon, millä köysiletti ei löysty – ihan helppo kikka, miksei mulle kukaan kertonut aiemmin?

Tämän viikon videotutoriaalissa näytän, kuinka köysiletin osioita pitää kiertää sekä toistensa ympäri että itsensä ympäri, jottei letti löystyisi. Köysiletistä voi tehdä monta eri variaatiota. Tässä näytän puoliranskalaisen köysiletin ja köysiponnarin. (Ja alkuänkytyksen jälkeen video on ihan selkeä)

Helpomman version köysiletistä saat tekemällä vain köysi ponnarin (videolla olevan letin loppuosa). Voit myös yhdistää letin alkuosan johonkin muuhun letiin, jos haluat vaihtelua kampauksiin.

Tässä kaksi puoliranskalaista köysilettiä yhdistetty ranskalaisiin letteihin (kampauksen inspiraationa oli @sheerbraidedbliss Instagram-letittäjä).

As a kid, I always wondered why the rope braids that I did on my Barbie, always came undone so easily. A couple of years ago I learned a trick to keep the rope twist tight. Why didn’t anyone tell me before?

In this week’s video tutorial, I show how you need to twist the sections of the rope twist around themselves as well as around each other to keep it tight. There are lots of styles you can do with a rope twist. Here, I show you how to do a lace rope twist into a rope twist ponytail.

You can make an easier version by just doing the ponytail part of the twist, or for variation, you can do the lace rope twist and combine with another style.

Here, I combined two rope twists with French braids (style inspired by Chelsea @sheerbraidedbliss):
