Otsahiuksia ja polkkatukkaa

Leikkailtiin taas hieman tyttöjen hiuksia: Moona halusi otsatukan ja Elli lyhyen polkkatukan. No, miksikäs ei, hiuksethan kasvavat kyllä. Ellin tukasta tuli vähän lyhyt, mutta Moonan hiukset taas näyttävät pidemmältä otsiksen kanssa.

Tapansa mukaan Lotta toivoi vain pitempiä hiuksia ja halusi mukaan kuvaan, joten hänen kuplakalanruoto näkyy myös tässä.

Time for haircuts again! Moona wanted fringe/ bangs and Elli wished for a short bob. Why not, I thought: it’s only hair and it will grow! Elli’s bob ended up quite short, but Moona’s hair looks longer with the fringe.

As usual, Lotta just wanted longer hair, so she’s in the picture with her bubble fishtail.

Aprilliä! April Fools!

Valeotsatukka, valepolkkatukka ja kalanruotohuijaus! Aika moni sukulainen ja ystävä meni lankaan tänä aamuna, kun lähetimme tätä kuvaa. Vuosiin en ole keksinyt hyviä aprillipiloja, mutta tämä meni täydestä niin työmatkalla olevalle miehelleni kuin äidille, siskolle ja Ellin kavereille!

Faux fringe/ faux bangs, faux bob and a faux fishtail! Quite a few family members and friends were fooled when we sent this picture to them this morning. I haven’t manage to think of good April fools jokes for years, but quite a few believed this one, including my husband, who’s on a business trip, my mum, sister and a few of Elli’s friends.

Letityksen alkeet

Hienot lettikampaukset ovat yleensä vain yhdistelmiä ja muunnoksia kuudesta perusletistä. Todella pitkälle pääsee jo neljän letin opettelulla. Näitä voi letittää eri suuntiin ja muotoihin, eri osiin päätä ja vaikka ristikkäin, eikä tarvitse koskaan esiintyä samalla kampauksella.

Eli nyt kaikki aloittelijat harjoittelemaan tätä neljän letin listaa:

Kalanruoto: tämän viikon ohjevideo YouTube-kanavallani on peruskalanruoto, jonka teko ei ole vaikeaa, mutta tekniikka on aika erilainen, kuin muissa perusleteissä:

Kolmessa seuraavassa letissä on linkit vanhoihin, engkanninkielisiin, hieman amatöörimäisempiin videoihini (kotivalaistuksessa, pyjamat päällä, mutta letti tulee kuitenki hyvin selitettyä)…

Ranskalainen letti: kolmella suortuvalla tehty palmikko, johon lisätään hiuksia kummaltakin puolelta lettiä

Hollantilainen letti: ranskalainen letti, joka tehdään väärinpäin, eli reunalta keskelle siirrettävät osiot siirretään keskisuortuvan ali (ei yli)

Puoliranskalainen: ranskalainen letti, johon lisätään hiuksia vain yhdeltä puolelta

Näitä lettejä olen hionut ihan aloittelijoiden kanssa lettikursseillani ja olen saanut palautetta, että näiden (ja muutaman lisävinkin ja -niksin) avulla saa aikaiseksi vaikka mitä.

In English:

Most braided hairstyles are variations and combinations of six basic braids, and you can get really far with just learning four. You can do them in different directions and shapes, different parts of the head, or even cross them over, and you won’t need to have the same style twice!

So if you’re a beginner, get practising the following four basic braids:

Fishtail: this week’s tutorial on my YouTube channel is a basic fishtail braid. Not difficult, but the technique is a bit different from other basic braids:

I’ve got links to my old, quite unprofessional, videos for the next three basic braids (home lighting and pyjamas, but the technique is quite well explained)…

French braid: braiding with three strands, adding hair from both sides

Dutch braid: like an inside out french braid

Lace braid: a french braid where you just add hair from one side

So, learn these and you are well on your way to creative braids.

Winter braids

Winter weather and nice hair is quite an impossible combination: any kind of hair do is easily ruined by wearing a hat.

It’s been cold and windy here, and we’ve had some snow, so hats have been on for weeks already. Just having a french braid or two low pig tails is getting a bit boring. So I thought I’d compile some nice braids that will fit under a hat, and won’t get messed up when you put your hat on and take it off.

A good idea is to have a lace braid holding all the hair around the face, these styles will hold well. Here I’ve done one french lace finishing in a french braid at the back and one fishtail lace braid finishing in a fishtail at the back. (The fishtail picture is a bit summery, but works well in winter)

I’m really into waterfall braids lately, but they don’t hold that well, especially if you’re wearing a hat! But a nice thing to do is to tie the rest of the hair back, and your waterfall will stay, no matter what the weather:

This one uses the scissor waterfall braid (tutorial by Hair4myPrincess here). I’ve just done two of them on one side, one on the other, and finished with a fishtail. If that’s a bit too much for you, you can do any kind of waterfall and braid the rest of the hair.

Finally, all half down braids look good with a hat, and if the top part is strong enough, the hat won’t ruin it. So single or double lace braids work well. This one is two fishtail braids, but works just as well with normal 3- or 4-strand braids.
